Following the
street you see on your left the fields and „Gesù dei Campi“ and on your right
the last hill of the village, from here you get to a wideni ng where was located
the old
Neuwirt Hotel. This building was the place where the
young, especially from
Netherlands, arrived and stayed during the seventies. They dwelled here and in
some houses nearby called „Colonie“. On the right there is a little street wich
leads to two typical buildings of this region (Maso), and one of these, Maso
Mutschlechner, is very old and attractive. Coming back towards the Neuwirt Hotel
and following the main street you meet on your left an old building, once the
fire station of the village; on your right there is a street which leads to the
new area. The road passes through big fields; on the left there is the new Fire
Station and going ahead you get to a bunch of buildings: the old tobacconist,
now close, the nursery and primary school.
Finally the "Piazza" with the Parish House and
the rectory. It
is here that street
takes
the name of „im Peuren“ and splits in two streets, one on the left and the other
on the right. At the beginning of the latter there is the oldest Maso of the
village and up ahead Maso Neuhauser from which you can enjoy the beautiful
landscape of San Sigismondo. After al little down slope you get to the wood that
separates the village and leads to the western part .
This is a new
area with the new houses and old redecorated houses.
Keep on going
ahead you meet the old power station and some romantic chalets in the wood,
together with Maso Burgstaller from which you can enjoy the landscape of all the
village. If
you turn in the
street on the left from the "Piazza" you
see „Casa Abfalterer“ on which there is still an ancient escutcheon of XVII
century and after this Maso Hanslmoar one of the few with the cows house and a stone fontain. From
here there is a path which leads to another Maso where
today it is possible to
taste some typical dishes. Going ahead you reach „Our Lady Church“ and the new
houses have been constructed in the place of the old ones. The road ends with
another Maso from which you come back towards the railway station. The
railway
station road is a bridge that passes across the river Rienza. The little railway
station is now closed but from here starts a path which leads to „Bagni of
Ilistra“ site of a beautiful church, San Ulrico. It is a very ancient Church
whose origin is in the XIV century and people say that the Austria Emperor
Francesco Giuseppe
visited it.
